This tutorial is broken up into the following six sections:

00:00 – Introduction
00:33 – Setup Custom Photo Preset
06:50 – Setup Custom 1080P 24FPS Preset
10:03 – Setup Custom 720P 60FPS Preset
12:00 – Edit, Fast Forward, and Rewind
13:28 – Conclusion

I’ve been receiving a lot of questions lately on how to setup the Canon 7D so I put together a quick tutorial on how to create custom photo and video presets.

A lot of thanks goes to Stu Maschwitz for the tips on how to flatten your picture profile in the camera. You can read about his settings in more detail here: Flatten Your 5D.

In addition to the custom picture settings, I cover a few hidden tips on how to setup your multi-controller direct button to quickly achieve auto focus, how to reverse the direction of your shutter and aperture dials, and how to fast forward and rewind video footage in the 7D.

Moreover, I cover the basic fundamental camera settings in the 7D along with the proper way to setup your shutter speed in video mode to obey the 180 degree rule. I hope these tips help out your workflow!

As always, please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns!

Thanx this is great stuff i just got my 7d and there are so many stuff there i do not know were to start but my main problem was how to put the manual iris since every time i would pan on the video mode towards the light it would automatically close the iris that is my main problem.

Agron, place the camera on M (Manual Mode) like I outlined in the very beginning of the tutorial. Also make sure you change your ISO from A (Auto) to a speed like 100…

Thanks for the video; it really does help beginners like me. I just have one quick question if you could please help me. When I shoot videos on my 7D the recording stops automatically after 10 seconds. Is there a setting I need to change?

One thing got missed in the user settings. You must absolutely change the auto power-off to 30 minutes to avoid and auto shut-down. If it does shut down, any changes made after the C1,C2,C3 presets are lost. Example aperture and ISO changes. Your camera wakes up different than when it shut down. Almost a deal breaker for me on the user settings.

I have the 50d and was considering upgrading. Not sure yet. Don’t need the video capability much. By the way, maybe I can help you. Your post titles are not in the URL of your post. I had the same problem. Thousands of blog owners do too. This article title ends with ?p=341. It’s easy to fix and only takes a minute. Go to http://PowerLineTraining.com/wordpress-link-structure/ and there’s a short video that will walk you through it. I do Internet Marketing and it’s critical for me.
